The new year is flying by and it is February already. This year we are lucky enough to have an extra day this month in which to prepare for clinics in March and the first shows of the season in April. Cigar and I have been diligently working on our left lead canter and lateral work. Well I have been trying to make him work diligently, and he has done his best to diligently test my patience. The missive to “ride your horse straight” sounds so easy until you are on top of a horse who seemingly has a spine like a wriggling earthworm and who can cow kick like a Music City Rockette.
Congratulations to all the year end award winners. I hope all who attended the banquet at Primavera’s had a great time. Tammy and Barb really know how to put together a memorable event. Thank you to all who selected Cigar and I for the Magic Jami award. Cigar was disappointed there was no cash award associated with the honor – the last $50 bill he ate was so very tasty.
Have you decided yet what you’d like to try to do this year to help VADAF? Want to lose some weight? Be a runner! Work on your penmanship? Be a scribe! Learn who to call to rent a port-a-john? Be a manager! Learn to manage your time better? Be the secretary of a show! All of life’s lessons can be learned at the barn and by volunteering for your chapter.
You can reach me at (540) 207-0745 or by email me at althompson@deq.virginia.gov if you are interested in helping.
